Adversity often brings out the best in people. Last week my wife became a “sick passenger” on the A train at 59th Street in Manhattan. There was no shortage of people helping me to get her off the train and onto the platform, offering me support and assistance and calling EMS. The police were extremely helpful, monitoring the progress of the ambulance and guiding it to our location. The inconvenience experienced by some is an opportunity for others to show altruism, a trait that exemplifies what it means in these times to be a New Yorker.
